NALGONDA: A three-day Varsha Pashupath Varuna Yagam commenced on Monday at the Parvath Vardhini Sri Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple, an associated temple of the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta.

The rituals began with Ganapathi Puja, Punyahavachanam, Rakshabandhan and Akhanda Deeparadhana, following which temple priests commenced the Varuna Yagam.

According to temple authorities, the yagam is being conducted following directions from the state government to pray for good rainfall in view of the rainfall deficit attributed to the El NiƱo effect.

Temple executive officer J. Bhavani Shanker said the decision to perform the Varuna Yagam was taken in view of the drought-like conditions prevailing in parts of the state and the need to pray for adequate rains.

He said the rituals are being conducted in accordance with Agama Shastra and established temple traditions.
