Telangana: Trees Uprooted, Crops Ruined In Flash Rains

The flash rains on Sunday wreaked havoc in several districts of Telangana. Rains accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ruined crops at various places and a hamali Neelam Venkanna, 42, died after being struck by lightning while working at the IKP purchasing centre in Sudanapalli in Mahabubabad district. He suffered serious injuries and died on the spot after being struck by lightning.

In Mahabubabad district headquarters, maize and paddy brought to the agricultural market yard was damaged after getting wet in the rain, despite farmers trying to protect by covering the heaps with tarpaulins.

At Nelkondapalli mandal headquarters in KHammam, maize brought to the purchasing centres got wet in the rain.

In Khammam city, Chintakani, Wyra, Karepalli and Kusumanchi mandals, paddy kept for drying was damaged in the rain.

At Illendu agricvultural market yard in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, maize bags stored for sale got wet in the stagnant rainwater.

In Nalgonda district, trees and electric poles were uprooted, tin roofs on sheds flew off under the impact of the high speed winds.

At Kyatanpalli Baldia in Mancherial district, many trees were uprooted and fell on the roads disrupting traffic for hours. Power supply was also disrupted for several hours due to the gusty winds.
