Telangana: Transport Dept. Mulls ‘One State, One Tax’

The meeting, headed by commissioner Ilambarithi along with other transport officials, discussed simplifying the existing system: Reports

HYDERABAD: The transport department and representatives of tourist bus operators held a meeting on rationalisation of the quarterly tax structure applicable to tourist buses. The meeting, headed by commissioner Ilambarithi along with other transport officials, discussed simplifying the existing system.

Tourist buses are presently taxed under three separate slabs — single district tax, two district tax and state tax. With a view to streamlining the structure, the department said it was felt necessary to move towards a “One state, One tax” system by doing away with the three slabs, without increasing the overall tax burden on operators.

A committee had earlier been constituted to study the matter, and Thursday’s meeting was convened to obtain the views and opinions of stakeholders on the committee’s findings. Tourist bus operators from across the state attended and shared their feedback.
