HYDERABAD: The city traffic police have imposed traffic restrictions and diversions around the Balkampet Yellamma temple on Tuesday and Wednesday in view of the temple’s annual Yellamma Kalyanam festivities, which is expected to draw thousands of devotees.
On Tuesday, traffic from Greenlands, Matha temple and Satyam theatre towards the Yellamma temple will be diverted at the SR Nagar T-Junction. Vehicles from Fatehnagar flyover heading towards Balkampet will also be diverted at New Bridge towards Begumpet. Bylanes and link roads between SR Nagar and Fatehnagar will remain closed during the festival period.
Police have earmarked parking areas at the R&B Office near SR Nagar, the GHMC ground at DK Road, Padmasri Apartments, Fatehnagar under the flyover, Nature Cure Hospital and the Sanathnagar GHMC grounds.
On Wednesday, the deity’s Rathotsavam will be held, and traffic will be diverted away from the roads around the temple. The Rathotsavam will begin from the temple, go towards SS Bakery, where it will take a right turn and head towards Abhilasha Towers, then towards Sriramnagar crossroads and return to the temple again. Traffic will be restricted on the entire route.
Heavy traffic congestion is expected on roads leading to the temple due to the large number of devotees visiting the temple for the Kalyanam. Authorities advised motorists to avoid the area where possible and use alternative routes to prevent delays.
