Telangana To Launch Sarathi Portal For Issuing Driving Licences, Vehicle Registration Today
The long-awaited rollout, to be held at the North Zone RTA office in Trimulgherry, Secunderabad, is a big shift from the state’s previous system managed by a private contractor, CMS Computers Limited.

Hyderabad: The transport department will launch the Centre’s Sarathi portal on Wednesday for driving-licence issuance and vehicle registration, transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Monday.
The long-awaited rollout, to be held at the North Zone RTA office in Trimulgherry, Secunderabad, is a big shift from the state’s previous system managed by a private contractor, CMS Computers Limited. Originally slated for March 9 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the launch was postponed due to the MLC elections code of conduct.
Under the Sarathi scheme — integrated with the existing Vahan portal — applicants will be able to apply for and receive driving licences, learner’s permits, fitness certificates, conductor and driving-school licences, and pay related fees online. The new system also covers vehicle registration, permit issuance, taxation, and enforcement functions, and allows showroom-based registrations.
“By adopting Sarathi, we will offer citizens a more transparent, user-friendly platform,” minister Prabhakar said. He directed officials to ensure adequate staffing and equipment at all RTOs to handle the expected surge in online applications.
Though the Centre introduced Vahan and Sarathi in 2021, the previous BRS government chose not to migrate to the Central platform. Telangana thus lagged behind neighbouring states — such as Andhra Pradesh — that have since implemented the unified system.
