The Union department of school education and literacy selected 48 teachers through a three-stage process at the district, state and national levels.
HYDERABAD: Teacher Bhavani Bompelly of MPPS Girls Gandhari will receive the National Teachers Award from President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 5. Bompelly, one of 48 school teachers selected across the country, said her work would continue to focus on joyful teaching, student activities and holistic development.
“I am very happy. I have been using joyful teaching methods with my students and focusing on academics, activities and their holistic development. We have recently started introducing technical education as well,” she said. Bompelly is a secondary school teacher who teaches all subjects, especially mathematics. She had travelled to Finland as part of the government’s programme.
“My family is very excited about me going to Delhi,” she said, adding, “Award or no award, I plan to continue doing the best I can for my students.” Bompelly was appointed on February 28, 2008, and received the State Best Teacher Award in 2025. She was also selected for an educational exposure programme to Finland and has worked as a district resource person and district child protection officer.
She told Deccan Chronicle that her contribution had led to a rise in enrollment at her school from 40 students in 2018 to more than 130 after 2025, while the number of government teachers increased from two to five. A pre-primary section began in 2022, student attendance rose to more than 80 per cent and the school reported zero dropouts. It now has four computers, a library, five toilets, electricity, more than 75 dual desks and digital learning facilities. Five additional classrooms, a computer lab, a library and an RO water plant have also been sanctioned by the State government.
Bompelly’s teaching practices include play-based and joyful learning, and interdisciplinary lessons. She also runs two educational YouTube channels, one focused on student activities and another on competitive examination learning.
The Union department of school education and literacy selected 48 teachers through a three-stage process at the district, state and national levels. The teachers come from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six Central government organisations; 26 are men and 22 are women. Online self-nominations were accepted between June 15 and July 20.
Short documentaries on the work of each awardee will be screened during the September 5 programme. The event will be telecast live on Doordarshan and SWAYAM PRABHA channels and streamed through the Union education ministry’s online platforms.
