Telangana State Govt to Bear Additional Burden Faced by Haj Pilgrims

Due to the prevailing crisis in West Asia, the Haj Committee of India had mandated additional charges of Rs.10,000 per pilgrim for Haj airfare.

Hyderabad: In a major relief to Haj pilgrims, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state government would bear the additional financial burden of Rs. 10,000 placed on each of the Haj pilgrims this year. With the travel of Haj pilgrims from Hyderabad beginning earlier on Monday, a Haj Committee official said those who paid the Rs.10,000 would be refunded upon their arrival after completion of pilgrimage.

Due to the prevailing crisis in West Asia, the Haj Committee of India had mandated additional charges of Rs.10,000 per pilgrim for Haj airfare. The government had requested the committee to revoke the charges as some pilgrims from other states had already travelled without additional charge.

This year, around 7,000 individuals registered for the pilgrimage. However, the surge in fuel prices resulting from the conflict between Iran and the United States has impacted the Haj pilgrimage.
