Telangana Staff JAC Demands 5-Day Week, 51% Fitment

The JAC also demanded immediate implementation of the Second Pay Revision Commission (PRC)

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Employees Joint Action Committee (TGE-JAC) has demanded introduction of a five-day working week for government offices in view of the El Nino conditions. It said the move would help conserve water and power besides improving employee efficiency.

TGE-JAC chairman Maram Jagadeeswar and secretary-general Eluri Sreenivasa Rao said a five-day week would not impose any additional financial burden on the exchequer and could instead result in savings. They suggested office timings from 10 am to 5.30 pm, with seven-and-a-half hours of work a day. The demand was raised at the JAC executive committee meeting held on Friday.

The JAC also demanded immediate implementation of the Second Pay Revision Commission (PRC) with 51 per cent fitment from July 1, 2023. It said employees, teachers, gazetted officers, pensioners and workers had been waiting for the PRC report for three years.

The JAC sought an increase in monthly allocation for clearing pending employee bills from `1,000 crore to `2,000 crore and demanded scrapping of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). It also sought an appropriate decision to extend OPS to employees whose appointments or notifications were issued before September 1, 2004.

The JAC demanded effective implementation of the New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) for employees, pensioners and their families, including employees of government undertakings, Gurukul institutions, marketing and library departments, aided institutions and universities.
