Telangana Sizzles as Mercury Crosses 46°C

The IMD cautioned that severe heat conditions could continue across several northern and eastern districts over the next few days.

Hyderabad: The IMD forecast isolated light rain or thundershowers in parts of the state, but there was no prediction of relief from the sizzling heat over the next few days. The mercury crossed the 46ºC mark in the hottest part of the state, and stayed above the 43ºC mark for the second consecutive day in Hyderabad. The nights would continue to stay warm.

The IMD cautioned that severe heat conditions could continue across several northern and eastern districts over the next few days. The Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) forecast that the maximum temperature could touch 47ºC in some districts.

According to the TGDPS data, Sirpur (T) in Komuram Bheem district recorded the state’s highest temperature at 46.5°C, followed by 46.4°C in Jagtial, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla and Suryapet. . The mercury remained above 45ºC at Khammam, Mulugu, Nirmal, Hamankonda and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts.

Hyderabad recorded an average maximum temperature of 39°C, while the highest temperature within the GHMC limits touched 43.4°C at Asifnagar in Karwan circle. Goshamahal and Begumpet recorded 40.6°C each, while Chandrayangutta, Serilingampally and Amberpet crossed 40°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the city recorded a maximum temperature of 43°C and warned of warm night conditions in Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts.

The IMD issued an orange alert for severe heatwave conditions in Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Khammam districts on Friday. Yellow alerts for heatwave conditions were issued for Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon and Siddipet.

The weather office said there would be “no large change” in maximum temperatures over the next three days, though isolated light rain or thundershowers were likely in parts of Telangana on Friday and Saturday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph were forecast for districts including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal.

TGDPS forecasts showed several districts, including Khammam, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Suryapet, could continue recording temperatures between 45°C and 47°C over the next two days.
