Hyderabad: A cyber scammer posing as bank credit card representative duped a city based victim of Rs.1.8 lakh. The victim lodged a complaint with the city cyber crime unit stating that he received a call from someone who claimed to be from the credit card department of the bank. The caller said the victim was being penalised for not using his credit card.

The scamster then assured the victim that he would waive the fine. He initiated a video call and instructed the victim to show his credit card and collected the data including the CVV number, said city cybercrime ACP R.G. Siva Maruthi. Subsequently, he received a series of OTPs. He did not reveal them to the scamster. Despite this, the amount was debited from his credit card.
