Nalgonda:Suryapet police arrested Registered Medical Practitioner Bathka Yadagiri on Friday after he was accused of causing the death of a pregnant woman through an illegal abortion. Officers also seized an ultrasound machine from his Nakrekal facility.
DSP Prasanna Kumar reported that Yadagiri, who operated the centre without proper authorisation, performed illicit sex-determination tests on pregnant women for ₹10,000 and carried out an illegal abortion on a woman at five months’ gestation, which led to her death.
A case has been filed against five individuals, with Yadagiri named as the third accused. He faces charges under Sections 105 and 90 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; Sections 5(2) and 5(3) of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971; and Section 23(1)(3) of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994. Three other suspects remain at large, and police are actively working to apprehend them.
