Telangana: Revanth Inaugurates Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar Steel Flyover, Commuters See Faster Travel

HYDERABAD: The 3.32-km Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar steel flyover, inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday, is is expected to reduce travel time on the stretch by allowing commuters to bypass traffic signals at the Central Jail crossroads, Saidabad and IS Sadan.
“I use this route regularly, and is a lot of traffic. When travelling from Nalgonda crossroads towards Santoshnagar or Owaisi junction, we have to cross several traffic signals — first at Central Jail crossroads, then Saidabad junction and at IS Sadan junction. With the flyover, all these signals can now be avoided,” said Rashid Siddiqui, a daily commuter.
Md. Shafi, an autorickshaw driver from Saidabad, said the flyover had reduced travel time considerably. “Earlier, it used to take around 25 minutes as there were two traffic junctions in between. Now it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to cross the stretch,” he said.
Md. Iqbal, another regular commuter, said the flyover would make daily travel easier by reducing delays at the major traffic junctions. Syed Mohammed, a resident of IS Sadan, said the new flyover would help commuters travelling towards Santoshnagar and Owaisi Junction with fewer interruptions.
The facility is also expected to benefit employees of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) and other establishments under the Union defence ministry who use the Chanchalguda road to commute to their offices.
The flyover comprises a 2.53-km main viaduct and a 200-metre up-ramp at the IS Sadan junction. It begins near Chanchalguda Printing Press and extends towards Santoshnagar, with an up-ramp at Saidabad and a down-ramp at IS Sadan.
The ₹620-crore project was taken up in 2022 and was completed and opened to traffic in 2026 after delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and land acquisition issues. The flyover has a passenger unit count (PUC) of 70,576 in 2015, which is projected to rise to 1,93,632 by 2035.
