Telangana Residents Still Labelled Andhra Pradesh in Aadhaar

Hyderabad:Thousands of senior citizens, students and other residents of Telangana continue to face difficulties in getting the State name corrected in their Aadhaar records, which still show “Andhra Pradesh” more than a decade after the bifurcation.
The problem is linked to technical and database issues in updating addresses through the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). In many cases, Aadhaar records display Andhra Pradesh as the tate even though the house number, locality, district and PIN code belong to Telangana.
Residents making repeated visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras often find the process stalled due to PIN‑code mapping glitches. Thota Nagaraju, manager at a Meeseva centre in Panjagutta, said: “There is a lot of inconvenience. The authorities should update the system format. Most residents in Telangana still have Andhra Pradesh as their State in Aadhaar.”
He added that restrictions on corrections — name twice, date of birth once for a lifetime — further complicate matters, with each update taking three to four months.
Social worker Cirigiri Vijay Kumar said the issue was causing serious inconvenience. “We lodged complaints with UIDAI to rectify these glitches and map PIN codes correctly. Citizens should not be forced to visit Aadhaar centres just to change the State name,” he said.
He urged UIDAI to undertake a one‑time database exercise to automatically correct the State field based on PIN‑code mapping, reducing unnecessary visits and administrative burden.
By Saturday, Hyderabad district had 3,51,982 pending applications under Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8, including 71,089 at AERO level, 2,17,135 assigned for BLO field verification, and 48,406 verified by EROs but yet to be disposed of. None has been cleared so far.
