Telangana Releases Rs 205 Crore for Warangal Mamnoor Airport Land Acquisition
Reports said the government was offering Rs 1 crore per acre of agriculture land but farmers were demanding Rs 2 crore as compensation. Officials have proposed a ‘consent award’ of Rs 1.2 crore per acre.

Hyderabad: The state government on Friday released Rs 205 crore to the roads and buildings department as additional additional funds towards land acquisition for the Mamnoor airport in Warangal. The decision was contained in a GO dated July 23. Then money will be used to compensate owners whose land will be acquired for the facility.
Deccan Chronicle had reported in June that the airport requires 950 acres, of which 696 acres are available within the existing premises of the airfield. The government began acquiring the remaining 260 acres, including about 220 acres from farmers and 40 acres from private plot owners. In November last, the state government had sanctioned Rs 205 crore to facilitate the process.
The Centre gave formal approval for the airport expansion on February 28.
Reports said the government was offering Rs 1 crore per acre of agriculture land but farmers were demanding Rs 2 crore as compensation. Officials have proposed a ‘consent award’ of Rs 1.2 crore per acre.
For the 40 acres that fall under private ventures, the government offered Rs 6,000 per square yard but plot owners demanded between Rs 12,000 and Rs 16,000. It was stated that delay in land acquisition was holding up the process.
The Mamnoor airport was operational during the Nizam era and later operated Vayudoot flights. It also played a crucial role during the India-China war. It would be returning to activity after more than three decades of dormancy.
