Telangana Police rescue more Nepali children during Operation Muskan

Hyderabad: In its month-long Operation Muskan X, held last month, the Telangana police rescued 3,076 children, including 2,772 boys and 304 girls, across the state. Many of the rescued children were from Nepal.

Shikha Goel, additional DGP, CID and women safety, said that the operation aimed to curb human trafficking, kidnapping, and rehabilitate vulnerable children. The operation was conducted statewide, with the women safety wing as the nodal agency, deploying 676 personnel across 120 sub-divisional police teams.

The teams identified vulnerable areas through analysis of past crimes, unregulated industrial units, brick kilns, and places where children were illegally employed. Rescues occurred in locations such as railway stations, bus stations, religious sites, traffic junctions, mechanic shops, brick industries, construction sites, shops, tea stalls, and footpaths.

Of the 3,076 children rescued, 644 were saved by the Cyberabad police teams alone.

Those rescued included 934 children from other states and countries, including Nepal (894 boys and 40 girls), 47 street children (44 boys and 3 girls), 115 children from begging (82 boys and 33 girls), 2,510 from child labour (2,307 boys and 203 girls), 33 from brick kilns (29 boys and 4 girls), and 371 from other industries (310 boys and 61 girls).

During the operation, 495 children were enrolled in the Darpan application to trace their families, and 4,262 children were compared with the missing children database. Additionally, 637 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 639 individuals, and 767 children were rescued in these cases.
