NALGONDA: A police constable has been suspended after being arrested in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Posco) Act for allegedly harassing a minor girl.
Superintendent of police Sharath Chandra Pawar issued the suspension orders on Monday. The constable, N. Satyanarayana, attached to Gurrampode police station, was arrested on July 17 and remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, Nalgonda Town-I police registered a case against Satyanarayana under Sections 11 and 12 of the Posco Act following a complaint by a schoolgirl alleging that he had followed her on a motorcycle while wearing a face mask and misbehaved with her.
Police examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused through the motorcycle registration number. He was subsequently produced before the Posco Special Court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police said the incident came to light after the complaint was investigated, leading to the constable's arrest and subsequent suspension.
