Telangana Police Athletes Shine at National Championship, DGP Lauds Winners

The Telangana women’s yoga team also earned a bronze medal in the women's artistic pair Yoga event

HYDERABAD: Telangana police personnel brought pride to the state by securing three medals at the 3rd All India Police Weightlifting Cluster Championship 2026-27 held at Madhuban in Haryana.

Congratulating the winners, director general of police, C.V. Anand said that excelling in national-level sporting events, while fulfilling demanding policing responsibilities, reflects the determination and professionalism of Telangana police personnel.

Among the standout performers, WPC S. Renuka of CCS, Malkajgiri commissionerate won a silver medal in the women’s powerlifting (+84 kg) category with an impressive total lift of 367.5 kg. ARPC M. Vamsi from Bhadradri Kothagudem secured a bronze medal in the men’s 59 kg powerlifting category.

The Telangana women’s yoga team also earned a bronze medal in the women's artistic pair Yoga event. The team comprised DSP T. Lakshmi, constables B. Ratnakumari, B. Saubhagya, K. Srilatha and K. Rani, whose coordinated performance helped Telangana secure a podium finish.

While encouraging the winners to aim for greater success in future national and international competitions, the DGP said, “The achievements of our athletes are a source of inspiration for the entire force and demonstrate the importance of fitness, perseverance and teamwork.”

Senior police officers, sports officials and fellow athletes attended the felicitation programme.
