Telangana Pitches Rice To Global Buyers

The department aims to transition Telangana from a commodity supplier into a branded, reliable and globally competitive exporter: Reports

HYDERABAD: Buoyed by the successful export of 30,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippines in 2025, Telangana is seeking long-term supply partnerships across Asia, Africa and West Asia. International buyers, retailers, food companies and established exporters have been invited to explore direct opportunities for sourcing fine and superfine rice from the state.

Addressing global agricultural leaders at the International World Rice Conference (IWRC) 2026 in Manila, Civil Supplies commissioner Stephen Raveendra highlighted Telangana’s emergence as an agricultural powerhouse. He said the state was no longer just feeding India but preparing to feed the world.

Telangana produced 18.5 million tonnes of rice last season, accounting for nearly 12 per cent of India’s total output from just 10 per cent of the country’s rice-growing area. The Civil Supplies Department is shifting focus from managing surplus to creating global value, actively promoting premium varieties to meet evolving consumer preferences and establish a strong presence in international markets.

The department aims to transition Telangana from a commodity supplier into a branded, reliable and globally competitive exporter, offering customised and traceable supply solutions. “Through transparent and sustained global partnerships, the state aims to convert its substantial rice surplus into greater economic value while strengthening its position in premium international markets and ensuring domestic food-security requirements remain fully protected,” Raveendra said.
