Telangana Photographic Society Launches Inaugural Awards

TPS president Arvind Chenji said the awards were instituted in the belief that photography depends not only on those who create images, but also on those who teach, mentor, support conservation and create opportunities for photographers.

Hyderabad:The Telangana Photographic Society (TPS) launched its inaugural awards at its World Photography Day celebration and annual dinner at CCRT, Hyderabad, recognising five individuals and institutions for their contributions to photography, education, conservation and the wider photographic community.

Around 150 photographers, senior members, industry representatives and guests attended the programme, which began with the traditional lighting of the lamp in the presence of composer and filmmaker R.P. Patnaik and representatives of the photography industry.

The first recipients were Abhimanyu, founder of FotoTech Magazine, Photo Trade Expo and Photo Parivar India; wildlife photographer and Nikon India ambassador Subhash Nair; Indian Photo Festival founder Aquin Mathews; academician and wildlife photographer Prof. Jitender Govindani; and V. G. Chimalgi, the Hyderabad-based institution established in 1924.
