Telangana: Parties Cry Foul over Voter List Errors in Municipal Wards

Second-rung leaders aspiring to contest as ward councillors have been approaching their respective MLAs and senior party leaders, seeking immediate correction of the voter lists.

Adilabad: Political leaders across major parties have raised strong objections over errors in ward-wise voter lists in several municipalities during the ongoing municipal election process. They alleged that the names of voters from neighbouring wards and villages have been wrongly included in other wards, leading to large-scale discrepancies.

In Adilabad municipality, leaders alleged that voters from Sonargalli, Chincharwada and Kurshidnagar were found listed in Bhukthapur ward. After recent mergers, the Adilabad municipality now has 49 wards, and leaders said the errors appear to have emerged during the reorganisation.

Further discrepancies were reported with voters from Bokkadaguda and Khanapur appearing in Kholipura ward, while Kholipura voters were found listed in other wards of Adilabad municipality. Representatives of the Congress, BJP, BRS and AIMIM submitted memorandums to the municipal commissioner, C.V.N. Raju, demanding rectification.

The representatives urged municipal officials to prepare fresh voter lists by removing names belonging to other wards. Officials assured that Booth Level Officers would visit the wards, consult political party representatives, prepare revised voter lists with consensus, and display them publicly.

Former councillor and Adilabad town Congress president Gudipalli Nagesh, along with former municipal vice-chairman Zaheer Ramjani, represented the issue before the authorities.

Similar complaints have surfaced in Mancherial Municipal Corporation, as well as in Nirmal, Kagaznagar and Asifabad municipalities, where leaders alleged widespread errors in voter lists.

Gudipalli Nagesh, who contested from Vidyanagar ward in the previous municipal elections, said the authorities must correct the errors before finalising the voter lists. Failing to do so, he warned, would create confusion among leaders and aspirants and raise serious concerns over transparency in the elections.
