Telangana: NRI Cell leaders meet CM and IT Minister in Singapore

They seek release of ex-gratia funds for families of deceased Gulf workers

Hyderabad: Congress NRI Cell leaders met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT minister D. Sridhar Babu in Singapore on Sunday and requested them to quickly release ex gratia for the families of Gulf migrant workers who died abroad.

Manda Bheem Reddy and Nangi Devender Reddy urged the Chief Minister to approve the file pending with the finance department.

The funds, totalling Rs 4.7 crore, could provide Rs 5 lakh to the families of each of the 94 workers from Telangana who died in the Gulf.

The Chief Minister responded positively. The leaders also requested that ex gratia payment be extended to workers who died in 18 other ECR (Emigration Check Required) countries, including Iraq, Singapore, and Malaysia.

District-wise, the highest number of pending cases are from Jagtial with 31 cases, Nizamabad (28) and Rajanna Sircilla (eight), Nirmal (five), Kamareddy and Siddipet (four each), Karimnagar and Mancherial (three each), Medak (two), and one pending case each in Warangal, Hanamkonda, Peddapalli, Nalgonda, Sangareddy and Rangareddy districts.

The meeting followed an event organised by the Telangana Cultural Society in Singapore, attended by the Chief Minister, Sridhar Babu, MLAs Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Kunduru Jaiveer Reddy, Hyderabad DCC in-charge C. Rohin Reddy and prominent community leaders. The "Meet and Greet" gathering allowed NRIs to discuss issues faced by overseas workers and their families.
