Telangana: Nalgonda Topped State in Voter Numbers

State Election Commission secretary I. Rani Kumudini said all three phases of the gram panchayat elections were conducted peacefully, without a single incident of recounting, postponement of voting, or delays in counting.

Hyderabad: Nalgonda district topped the state in terms of voter turnout in absolute terms, with 9.02 lakh out of 10.07 lakh voters participating in the recently concluded gram panchayat elections. In percentage terms, however, Yadadri Bhongir occupies pole position with a 92.33 per cent voter turnout.

Karimnagar district emerged as the best-performing district in terms of the swift completion of the election process.

Rani Kumudini said all three phases of the gram panchayat elections were conducted peacefully, without a single incident of recounting, postponement of voting, or delays in counting. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was lifted at 5 pm on Thursday. Of the total 1.58 crore registered voters, 1.35 crore exercised their franchise in the Panchayat elections.

The secretary said that two employees — Mulugu MEO Rajendra Prasad,and Adilabad AE Kantaiah — died on duty due to health issues. She added that the Commission would bring the matter to the government’s notice to ensure compensation is released to the bereaved family members.

“Orders were issued to prevent interference by MPDOs and other officials in the conduct of panchayat polls. District election authorities and observers were directed to conduct the elections impartially. Before the declaration of results, mandatory affidavits were obtained from single candidates and from candidates who withdrew their nominations,” Rani Kumudini said.
