KARIMNAGAR: Saffron flags bearing the name of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) and an ‘Om’ symbol have triggered objections from a section of corporators during the Ganesh Navaratri celebrations.
The MCK had put up the flags at major junctions in the city. Objecting to the printing of ‘MCK’ on the flags, corporators led by 61st division corporator Mohammad Atheef submitted a representation to Collector Chitra Mishra and municipal commissioner Praful Desai on Saturday.
Atheef said they had no objection to the ‘Om’ symbol but claimed that displaying the MCK name on saffron flags could affect religious harmony and hurt the sentiments of people belonging to other religions.
He urged the municipal authorities to remove the flags and take steps to protect religious harmony and communal peace.
