Telangana Joins PM-RAHAT Scheme, CS Reviews Implementation

Telangana joins PM-RAHAT, offering cashless road accident treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh per victim for seven days.

Telangana has formally joined the Centre's PM-RAHAT (Prime Minister-Road Accident Victim Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment) scheme that provides cashless medical treatment up to `1.5 lakh per road accident victim for up to seven days.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju directed district collectors to ensure that all network hospitals were enrolled under the scheme to facilitate immediate treatment during the critical golden hour. He reviewed its implementation with district collectors, superintendents of police and transport officials through a video conference at the Secretariat on Saturday.

Launched by the Centre on February 13, 2026, the scheme enables accident victims to access emergency assistance and ambulance services by dialling 112, the Emergency Response Support System, across national, state and local roads.

Sanjay Jaju said prompt admission to the nearest hospital after an accident was crucial for saving lives. He pointed out that while more than 1,000 hospitals were empanelled under the Aarogyasri scheme, only 469 had enrolled under PM-RAHAT so far. The Chief Secretary stated that hospitals would have to comply with prescribed procedures, including police investigation requirements, to provide treatment under the scheme.

He said the Centre could provide at least `100 crore annually to Telangana towards treatment under PM-RAHAT, reducing the financial burden on state government's Aarogyasri. Transport commissioner K. Ilambarithi, health secretary Dr Christina Zongthu and Aarogyasri CEO Zendage Hanumant Kondiba participated in the review meeting.
