Telangana: Illegal Cattle Blood Racket Busted
Veterinary doctors confirmed that cattle blood cannot be sold or injected into humans under any circumstances.
Hyderabad: Two men were caught extracting blood cruelly from sheep and goats at a butcher’s shop in Keesara, where police seized 130 packets of blood stacked with ‘human blood’ stickers.
According to officials, the duo identified as – Sanjeev, a doctor, and Sonu, caretaker of the shop – had drawn blood from 30 cattle that were alive using vacutainer needles meant for human sample collection. Each packet contained 750 ml and was priced at ₹5,000.
Veterinary doctors confirmed that cattle blood cannot be sold or injected into humans under any circumstances. Investigators said the men were supplying the blood to a trading company in Kacheguda for use in blood agar plates, which laboratories employ to detect pathogens.
Authorities stressed that such collection requires prior approval from the Animal Welfare Board and must not violate anti-cruelty norms.
Though Keesara police have not registered a case, they alerted the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Animal Husbandry Department. GHMC officials booked a case, seized the packets, and wrote to the collector and district magistrate of Medchal–Malkajgiri for further action.
Sources revealed the duo had been illegally selling goat and sheep blood for nearly three years. Inspector A. Anjaneyulu said the raid was conducted at Sonu Chicken and Mutton Market in Rampally following a tip-off, leading to the seizure of the packets and exposure of the racket.
