Telangana: House may Pass Quota Resolution

The Cabinet is also likely to take up the revision of market values of land, houses, and apartments. The last revision was undertaken in 2021 during the BRS regime.

Hyderabad: The Cabinet will meet on August 29 at the Secretariat, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy set to deliberate on issues including the tabling of Justice P.C. Ghose commission report on the Kaleshwaram project in the Assembly, and taking a final decision on holding the long-pending local bodies elections.

The government has been grappling with the challenge of implementing 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies. Revanth Reddy has constituted a ministers’ committee and a legal experts committee to study the legal and administrative options. Both panels are expected to submit their reports to the government on August 28. Their recommendations will be placed before the Cabinet to decide on the course of action, especially in view of the pending Presidential assent quota Bills.

The Cabinet is also likely to take up the revision of market values of land, houses, and apartments. The last revision was undertaken in 2021 during the BRS regime.

Meanwhile, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma issued separate notifications on Tuesday, summoning the Assembly and the Legislative Council to meet at 10.30 am on Saturday.

The session is expected to be stormy as the Congress government is set to table the Ghose commission. A detailed debate on the findings of the commission will be taken up, during which the ruling party intends to seek suggestions from all political parties on the action to be taken against those indicted for irregularities in the execution of the multi-crore irrigation project during the previous BRS regime.

Official sources indicated that the monsoon session may be brief, lasting only three days, as the state police will be preoccupied with security arrangements for Ganesh festivities and the immersion scheduled for September 6. The session is likely to conclude by September 3, though there is a possibility of a short recess before the immersion, with sittings resuming afterward.

The final decision on the duration of the session will be made at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Assembly on August 30. The government is also preparing to move a resolution in the House seeking Presidential assent for implementing 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes in local bodies, education, and employment.
