Telangana HC Tells Govt To Consider Sadar Plea

The writ petition was filed by an activist associated with the Stray Animal Foundation of India (SAFI), urging the court to direct the authorities to issue circulars and instructions to monitor Sadar festival events and to take legal action against offenders involved in acts of cruelty: Reports

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the State authorities to examine a representation submitted by an animal welfare activist seeking preventive measures to curb cruelty to animals during the upcoming Sadar festival, which is celebrated across the State a day before Diwali.

The writ petition was filed by an activist associated with the Stray Animal Foundation of India (SAFI), urging the court to direct the authorities to issue circulars and instructions to monitor Sadar festival events and to take legal action against offenders involved in acts of cruelty.

The petitioner submitted that in recent years, buffaloes and bulls used during the festival have been subjected to physical pain and psychological distress as they are forcefully dragged, beaten, and made to perform unnatural acts — all in violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The assistant government pleader for Home informed the court that he had no instructions on whether permissions were granted for the celebrations and sought time to obtain them. The court directed the concerned authorities to consider the petitioner’s representation dated October 9, 2025, while granting permission for the festival events, and posted the matter for further hearing on October 27.
