Telangana High Court.
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday expressed serious concern over allegations that a 75-year-old retired sub-inspector was subjected to harassment, humiliation and physical ill-treatment by the Madhuranagar police personnel.
Justice T. Madhavi Devi issued notices to the Madhuranagar police, the city police commissioner and the principal secretary, home, directing them to explain why compensation should not be awarded to the retired officer, Mohammed Osman, for the alleged violation of his rights.
Osman alleged that on May 18, while he was at his residence in Yousufguda, a team of police personnel entered his house and forcibly took him away without informing him of the reason nor showing any legal authority for their action. Counsel appearing for Osman told the court that the retired officer was allegedly dragged out of his home without being allowed to dress properly, causing public humiliation in front of neighbours and passersby.
Osman, who served in the police department for more than three decades before retirement, alleged that the officers showed complete disregard for his age and former service. Claiming that he suffered severe mental agony, physical torture and public humiliation, Osman sought strict disciplinary action against the police personnel involved and compensation for the alleged violation of his fundamental and human rights.
