Telangana GST Collections Hit Rs 4,621 Crore, Recording 35% Growth

Higher consumption, property deals and tax compliance boost April collections

Hyderabad: The new financial year 2026-27 has begun on a positive note for the state government, with the state’s own tax revenues recording a significant rise in April. The increase was driven by robust growth in GST collections, excise revenue and property registrations. Officials said the strong performance in the first month of the fiscal reflected sustained economic momentum, higher consumption and improved tax compliance across sectors.

Telangana recorded a sharp 35 per cent year-on-year increase in Goods and Services Tax collections in April 2026, with revenue touching Rs 4,621 crore, compared with Rs 3,422 crore in April 2025. According to data released by the commercial taxes department, the April GST mop-up was the highest-ever monthly collection since the implementation of GST, surpassing the previous record of Rs 4,231 crore registered in March 2026. The department said the growth reflected continued economic expansion and better tax compliance in the state.

Officials said Telangana had consistently maintained GST collections above Rs 4,000 crore for the last four months since January 2026, indicating strong buoyancy in economic activity and steady revenue growth. The surge was attributed to increased business activity across key sectors, supported by a business-friendly environment that attracted fresh investments, encouraged expansion of existing enterprises and boosted consumer spending.

Officials also said stricter compliance measures and improved enforcement mechanisms played a key role in enhancing revenue realisation. They said the sustained growth in GST collections reflected the strengthening fiscal position of the state and the resilience of Telangana’s economy.

The excise department also reported strong revenue growth in April. Liquor sales generated Rs 2,993 crore for the state exchequer during the month, compared with Rs 2,773 crore in April last year. Officials attributed the increase largely to unprecedented demand for beer during the summer due to record high temperatures across Telangana.

The stamps and registrations department recorded revenue of Rs 1,399 crore in April 2026, compared with Rs 1,115 crore in April 2025, registering an increase of Rs 284.43 crore. The rise was mainly driven by high-value property registrations in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri districts.

Around 1.30 lakh documents were registered in April this year, compared with 1.45 lakh documents in the corresponding month last year. Officials said that although the number of registered documents declined in April 2026, revenue increased significantly, indicating higher transaction values in the property market.
