Telangana Grameena Bank Told to Regularize Temporary Staff

Court directs Telangana Grameena Bank to consider long-serving employees for permanent roles.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the Telangana Grameena Bank to consider regularising 456 temporary employees working messenger/sweeper/casual labour in the head office, regional offices and 400 branches of the bank, on daily wages basis, for more than 20 years.

Justice Pulla Karthik directed the bank that the entire exercise should be completed as expeditiously as possible, preferably, within a period of six months. However, the court also imposed a condition that the regularisation is subject to assessment of their suitability.

The court also said that the selection process for office attendants (multipurpose) must not include that their names be sponsored by the Employment Exchange or any other agency.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by the Temporary Employees Union and 456 employees complaining against the bank for rejecting their claim for regularisation.
