Telangana govt to issue 1L ration cards in March
Ration cards will be distributed in districts such as Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Medchal, where no election code is in place.

Hyderabad:The state government is set to issue one lakh ration cards in the first week of March, focusing on districts where the model code of conduct for the MLC elections is not in effect. Ration cards will be distributed in districts such as Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Medchal, where no election code is in place.
These will be smart cards embedded with beneficiary details, allowing for the addition or deletion of names. Each card will feature a QR code or chip for easy identification. Beneficiary selection is based on data from the recently conducted caste survey and the verified applications from Praja Palana meetings.
In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, verification is still ongoing, with 90 per cent of the process completed. Unlike other districts, GHMC did not conduct ward meetings, delaying data validation. Additionally, constraints in printing smart cards are affecting the speed of distribution.
Currently, Telangana has 54,66,814 ration cards covering 2,81,41,920 beneficiaries. The timing of the ration card distribution will also depend on the resolution of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) issue, as civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy also oversees the irrigation portfolio.
