Govt plans welfare steps as staff unions push for pay, pensions, and pending dues

Hyderabad: The Congress government is likely to announce “good news” for government employees, who have put forward a list of demands, on June 2, Telangana Formation Day. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is likely to announce welfare measures for government employees after vetting the report by a three-member committee that held meetings with staff union leaders.
The Chief Minister would discuss the report with Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and senior officers and take a decision, sources said, keeping in mind employees' welfare.
The committee was to discuss matters related to welfare measures and grievances with employee unions and stakeholders, identify, categorise and examine pending issues and submit a consolidated report with specific and viable recommendations The committee, formed on May 6, was headed by revenue principal secretary Navin Mittal and comprised panchayat raj secretary Lokesh Kumar and TG Transco chairman and managing director Krishna Bhaskar.
Among the demands of the employees were implementation of the Pay Revision Commission recommendations, payment of five Dearness Allowance instalments, clearance of `9,000 crore in pending bills, retirement benefits upon superannuation, health facilities, restoration of the old pension scheme and resolution of service-related issues. The employees’ joint action committee (JAC) had threatened to hold a maha dharna in the city on June 9 to press their demands, and a strike from June 16 if the issues were not resolved.
