Telangana Govt Readies DPR for Musi Revival Project

Cabinet approval likely by the end of December: Reports

HYDERABAD: The state government has completed preparation for the detailed project report (DPR) for the first phase of the ambitious Musi Rejuvenation project and is set to submit it to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) by December-end to seek the release of funds. The ADB has already approved a loan of ₹4,100 crore for the comprehensive revival of the river.

The first phase of the project will cover a nine-kilometre stretch from Himayatsagar to Bapu Ghat via Kismatpur. Official sources said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is expected to convene a meeting of the state Cabinet by this month-end to secure formal approval for the DPR.

Once cleared by the Cabinet, the report will be forwarded to the ADB, enabling the disbursal of the sanctioned loan. The government also plans to submit the DPR to the Centre to seek additional financial assistance for the project.

The responsibility of preparing the DPR has been entrusted to a consortium comprising Meinhardt, Cushman & Wakefield, RIOS, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

Officials of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd. (MRDCL) recently held a review meeting with the consortium and directed it to complete and submit the phase-I DPR within a week.

According to official sources, the DPR envisages the development of service roads along the river, extensive green spaces, recreational zones and amusement parks.

It also proposes the construction of check dams at Kismatpur to facilitate water sports and improve water retention.

The first phase is expected to require minimal land acquisition, with only around 60 properties identified for acquisition and limited encroachments along the proposed stretch.

In parallel, the state government plans to launch the Trunk Interceptor Sewer Main project along both banks of the river at a cost of ₹3,100 crore across 55 km. The project aims to intercept and treat sewage at sewage treatment plants before releasing treated water into the river.

Musi plan

The government has asked the consultant consortium to prepare separate detailed project reports (DPRS) for three distinct components of the Musi project.

These include:

55-km East-West Corridor project connecting the eastern and western ends of the Outer Ring Road, from Narsingi to Gowdelli.

A riverfront infrastructure project along with the development of Bapu Ghat as Gandhi Sarovar covering 21 km.

A third phase focusing on heritage conservation.
Phase-I spans from Himayatsagar to Bapu Ghat.

The DPR for Phase-II from Osmansagar to Bapu Ghat, over 12 km, is nearing completion.

Phase-III involves construction of 11 heritage bridges across the Musi at an estimated cost of `1,000 crore.
