Hyderabad: The Telangana government has ordered a detailed inquiry into the fatal road accident that killed District Transport Officer M. Venkanna near the RTO office in Chelpur, Bhupalpally district, while he was discharging his official duties on Monday morning.
In a GO issued on Monday evening, the government termed his death a matter of serious concern and said a comprehensive review of the incident has been initiated, and Joint Transport Commissioner M. Chandrashekar Goud, posted at the Transport Commissioner's Office in Hyderabad, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer.
The accident occurred around 9:30 am when a coal-loaded lorry reportedly ran over DTO Venkanna (45), a native of Maripeda mandal in Mahabubabad district, while he was conducting vehicle checks. As per the order, the Inqury officer will examine the facts and circumstances that led to the accident and assess measures to prevent similar incidents.
The Officer has been directed to submit a detailed report to the government through the Transport Commissioner at the earliest. The probe will also include recommendations on field enforcement protocols, safety equipment, and standard operating procedures for vehicle interception and seizure operations on public roads. The aim is to strengthen safety for field officers and staff during enforcement duties. The Transport Commissioner has been asked to take further necessary action based on the inquiry findings.
The lorry driver has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep shock over the death and conveyed his condolences. He assured that the state government would extend all possible support to the bereaved family.
