Telangana Govt Increases Mee Seva Charges by 50%, Users to Pay More

With 18% GST added, overall service costs rise up to 78% from April 1, impacting citizens and students, even as operator commissions see a significant hike.

The Telangana government has announced a 50% increase in user charges for services provided through Mee Seva centres, with the revised rates coming into effect from April 1. In addition to the hike, an 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) will now be levied on these services, pushing the overall cost burden on applicants to nearly 77–78%.

Under the new structure, Category-A services have been increased from ₹35 to ₹62, while Category-B services now cost ₹80, up from ₹45. Category-A services typically do not require departmental verification, whereas Category-B services involve scrutiny by concerned departments.

The revision also includes an increase in charges for additional pages. Earlier, users paid ₹2 per page beyond four pages for scanning or printing. This has now been raised to ₹2.5 per page.

For instance, applying for a caste certificate, which previously cost ₹45, will now cost around ₹80, including GST. This reflects a significant rise in application expenses for citizens, particularly students and low-income groups.

At the same time, commissions for Mee Seva centre operators have been substantially increased for the first time in nearly 15 years. Operator earnings from Category-A services have risen from ₹13 to over ₹40 per transaction, while Category-B service commissions have gone up to over ₹52.

The government has stated that strict action will be taken against centres charging above the prescribed rates. Citizens can report overcharging via helplines 1100 or 18004251110, or by emailing meesevasupport@telangana.gov.in.
