Telangana: Governor Urges Grads To Embrace Innovation

HYDERABAD: Governor and Osmania University (OU) Chancellor Shiv Pratap Shukla urged graduates to become researchers, innovators and job creators as artificial intelligence and other technologies reshape the world of work, stressing that technology must remain guided by human values.
“AI can provide information, but the final decision must be taken by human beings based on understanding, ethical values, sensitivity and compassion,” Shukla said at OU’s 85th convocation on Tuesday.
He asked graduates to continuously upgrade their skills and use their knowledge to address social problems, contribute to research and create employment opportunities. He also called on the university to strengthen its work in artificial intelligence, machine learning, research, innovation and sustainable development.
Shukla said a convocation should be viewed as a celebration of knowledge, hard work, discipline and achievement. He urged graduates to contribute to the goal of building a developed India by 2047 and called on young people to stay away from drugs and lead healthy, disciplined lives.
Bharat Biotech chairman Krishna M. Ella stressed that academic qualifications alone would not be enough in a rapidly changing economy. He urged students to “build practical skills, develop their imagination and look at entrepreneurship as a way of solving social problems rather than merely making money.”
The university conferred 640 PhD degrees and 71 gold medals at the convocation. The doctoral degrees covered researchers from 12 faculties, while the medals recognised academic excellence across disciplines. The Telangana Governor’s Gold Medal for the best PhD thesis in English by a Scheduled Tribe student was awarded to D. Makla.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram said OU must remain at the forefront of AI, machine learning, research, innovation and sustainable development. His report highlighted academic excellence, research and institutional development, with emphasis on preparing students and researchers for a rapidly changing world.
The Governor also spoke about OU’s long academic legacy and called for research that addresses social challenges, digital learning opportunities for economically disadvantaged students and innovation that creates employment.
