Telangana Governor Promised Action Against Illegal Cow Slaughter: VHP

The Governor also assured the VHP representatives that he would move promptly to safeguard cows within the scope of his constitutional authority.

Hyderabad:The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) claimed that Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla had assured them he would take necessary steps within his powers to prevent illegal cow slaughter in the state, after their delegation met him and submitted a memorandum highlighting widespread violations of cattle protection laws ahead of Bakrid. The VHP leaders alleged that cows are being illegally transported for slaughter for Eid, and claimed that the police have turned helpless due to alleged threats and undue influence from leaders of the Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM).

The VHP spokesperson, Pagadakula Balaswamy, said that the Governor had said that violation of the law is punishable and emphasised that all religious and cultural beliefs in society must be respected. The Governor also assured the VHP representatives that he would move promptly to safeguard cows within the scope of his constitutional authority. The VHP delegation included Yadagiri Rao, Ramesh, Subhash Chander and several Hindu seers and they have accused the police machinery of acting in a partisan manner and alleged that bonded labour–like conditions are being used to harass VHP and Bajrang Dal workers instead of protecting cattle.

The VHP further alleged that thousands of cows meant for slaughter have already been rounded up and detained, and that the police have failed to rescue them and shift them to Gaushalas. They claimed that Hindu sentiments are being ignored and that the government shows no compassion while lakhs of cows face inhuman treatment, including the brutal killing of calves and animals in healthy working condition.
