Telangana: Gig Workers Seek Clarity On TGSRTC E-Auto Plan

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has sought clarity from the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) over its proposed electric-auto initiative for first- and last-mile connectivity, urging it to integrate existing EV autos and ensure transparency over the involvement of aggregator companies.
The proposed service is aimed at providing first- and last-mile connectivity to bus passengers in the GHMC area.
The TGPWU said reports about the initiative had caused anxiety among existing autorickshaw drivers, who were already facing a decline in business.
The union said it had received clarification from TGSRTC officials that there was no proposal at this stage to purchase a new fleet of EV autos and that existing EV autos were proposed to be utilised for the service.
According to the union, discussions regarding the involvement of aggregator or platform companies and the appropriate government are still under consideration.
The TGPWU said the clarification was important as incorrect or premature information was creating confusion among existing EV-auto drivers, many of whom were already facing a decline in business and income.
The union demanded that no new EV autos should be purchased or attached to the programme where sufficient existing EV autos were available. It also sought priority for existing EV autos and their drivers in the TGSRTC first- and last-mile connectivity programme.
