Telangana Gets 3,981 Approved PG Medical Seats For 2026-27
The matrix covers 692 course entries in more than 37 medical colleges: Reports
HYDERABAD: Telangana has 3,981 approved postgraduate medical seats for the 2026-27 academic year across government, private and deemed medical colleges, according to the seat matrix approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The matrix covers 692 course entries in more than 37 medical colleges, with seats available in MD, MS, DM, M.Ch. and postgraduate diploma courses. The approvals reflected in the matrix were those granted up to Tuesday.
Among government institutions, Osmania Medical College had 60 seats each in MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology and MD Paediatrics, followed by 40 each in MS General Surgery and MD Anaesthesiology.
It had 34 seats in MS Ophthalmology, 30 in MD Pathology, 28 in MD General Medicine, 22 in MD Psychiatry, 18 each in MS Orthopaedics and MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, and 16 in MD Radio-Diagnosis.
Gandhi Medical College had 25 seats in MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 20 each in MD General Medicine and MS General Surgery, 17 in MD Anaesthesiology, 15 in MD Paediatrics, 13 in MS Orthopaedics, 10 each in MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy and MS ENT, and nine in MD Radio-Diagnosis.
At Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims), the major allocations included 21 seats in MD Anaesthesiology, 13 each in MD Radio-Diagnosis and MD General Medicine, nine in MS Orthopaedics, eight in MD Pathology and six in MD Emergency Medicine.
Kakatiya Medical College had 22 seats in MD General Medicine, 19 each in MS General Surgery and MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 16 each in MD Paediatrics and MD Anaesthesiology, 12 in MS Orthopaedics and 10 in MS Ophthalmology.
Nims also accounted for several super-speciality seats, including 10 in DM Nephrology, eight each in DM Cardiology and DM Neurology, six each in MCh. Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and MCh. Neurosurgery, five in DM Medical Oncology and four each in MCh. Surgical Gastroenterology, MCh. Urology, MCh. Surgical Oncology and DM Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.
Osmania and Gandhi medical colleges also offer DM and M.Ch. programmes in areas including surgical oncology, neurosurgery, urology, paediatric surgery, endocrinology, cardiology, medical gastroenterology and plastic surgery.
The matrix includes government medical colleges in Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Suryapet, Siddipet and Ramagundam, besides Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad. These institutions offer postgraduate courses in clinical and non-clinical specialties.
Private and deemed institutions across Hyderabad and other districts were also included in the matrix, covering courses in clinical and non-clinical disciplines.
The NMC said seats for applications seeking an increase in existing intake or approval for new postgraduate courses for 2026-27 had not been included in the present matrix. Such approvals, if granted, would be notified subsequently.
Medical colleges have been directed not to admit students beyond the sanctioned intake. Admissions in excess of the approved capacity would violate the NMC Act, 2019 and could attract regulatory and penal action.
The NMC has also asked medical colleges and counselling authorities to report any discrepancies or omissions in the seat matrix before the commencement of counselling.
