State issues GO 124, paving way for public awareness and enumeration preparations

Hyderabad: The state government on Thursday issued a gazette notification via GO Ms No. 124, directing the re-publication of the Union Home Ministry’s August 14, 2026, notification on the Census 2027 household questionnaire, paving the way for public awareness ahead of the enumeration exercise. The order was released by the Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on behalf of the Governor
By republishing the Central notification in the State Gazette, Telangana is formally bringing the 40-question household schedule under the Census Act, 1948 to the notice of all district collectors, municipal commissioners, heads of departments and the general public. The GO also routes copies to all district collectors/principal census officers, municipal corporations, the information and public relations department, and the Telangana Technology Services managing director, indicating coordinated administrative and tech support for the exercise.
With the notification slated for publication in the Telangana Gazette on August 29, the state is expected to roll out public information campaigns, training for enumerators, and coordination meetings with urban and rural local bodies. Residents can expect detailed advisories on how the household schedule will be filled, what documents may be useful (Aadhaar, voter ID, bank details, vaccination records), and how self-enumeration, if offered, will work in practice.
