Telangana: Fungal Vegetables, Poor Hygiene Found At Kacheguda Hotel

During the inspection, officials found fungal-contaminated cabbage, lemons affected by citrus canker and rotten tomatoes stored in the kitchen: Reports

HYDERABAD: Food safety department officials on Sunday detected multiple hygiene and safety violations during an inspection at M/s Sweekar Hotel at Kacheguda Crossroads and initiated action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

During the inspection, officials found fungal-contaminated cabbage, lemons affected by citrus canker and rotten tomatoes stored in the kitchen. Boiled potatoes were also being used without proper cleaning and peeling.

The team reported poor sanitation, housefly infestation and unhygienic kitchen conditions. Prepared food items were stored uncovered and without labels in refrigerators, while raw vegetables were kept alongside semi-prepared food, including boiled noodles, raising the risk of cross-contamination.

Officials said the hotel did not have any FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification)-trained personnel. Mandatory records related to employee health, pest control, water quality testing and disposal of used cooking oil were also not maintained.

Food safety officers seized a 700-gram packet of New Classic Hakka Noodles for not carrying a batch number or nutritional information, in violation of the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations.

Action has been initiated against the establishment under the relevant provisions of the Act.
