BHADRADRI-KOTHAGUDEM: The final rites of a 21-year-old nurse who was killed at Thukkuguda in Hyderabad were conducted at her native village of Choutigudem in Mulakalapally mandal of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district on Monday.

The body was brought to Choutigudem in an ambulance from Hyderabad on Monday afternoon. Her family members, who had gone to Hyderabad after learning about her death, brought the body to the village. The funeral was conducted at the local graveyard according to customary rites. Her brother performed the final rites.

The death cast a pall of gloom over Choutigudem. The nurse, who belonged to a poor family, studied up to Class X at the Tribal Welfare Residential School in Ankampalem and completed her Intermediate at the Government Residential Junior College in Bhadrachalam. She completed a nursing course at an institution in Hyderabad and had been working at a private hospital for the past seven months.

Her father had died a few years ago and her brother supported her education by working as a labourer. She had taken up employment soon after completing her nursing course to support the family financially.

Villagers recalled her academic achievements despite the difficulties she faced and her efforts to support her family.
