Telangana: Farmer who attempted suicide over loan succumbs

Adilabad: Farmer Jadhav Devrao, 54, from Reniguda village in Bela mandal, attempted suicide on Saturday afternoon at the ICICI Bank Dasnapur branch by ingesting pesticide. The incident occurred after he faced alleged harassment from bank staff regarding the repayment of a Rs 3.5 lakh loan, which he had taken by mortgaging his land. Devrao succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at RIMS, Adilabad.

In response, Devrao’s family and Lambada community leaders staged a protest outside the bank, demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh, asserting that the bank’s harassment drove him to take his own life.

Local MLA Payal Shankar, former minister Jogu Ramanna, and district officials met with bank authorities to discuss the incident and the compensation claims. Efforts are underway to ensure the bank addresses the family’s demands appropriately.
