Telangana EAPCET Counselling Begins Amid Allegations of Seat Sale Irregularities

Hyderabad: The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGSCHE) began the registration process for the Telangana Engineering, Agriculture & Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG Eapcet) counselling on Thursday. The first phase of counselling will run until July 12, for candidates to pay the processing fee and book slots for certificate verification.

According to a TGSCHE official, as of the evening of July 4, 56,674 candidates had paid the processing fee and booked slots. The certificate verification is scheduled from July 6 to July 13. Candidates must complete these steps to have ample time to exercise their web options, he said. The exercise of options will be available from July 8 to July 15, with provisional seat allotment results expected by July 19.

As the counselling began, concerns have arisen about engineering colleges allegedly selling management quota seats at exorbitant prices. Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) and Anurag University have been named in these allegations. CBIT is reportedly demanding up to `18 lakh, while Anurag University is charging around `5 lakh for certain courses. Other institutions, like Niel Gogte Institute of Technology (NGIT), are also under scrutiny.

A parent shared his experience, stating that Anurag University asked for half the fee, `2.85 lakh, to secure a seat before the Eapcet results were announced, claiming that seats would be fully booked otherwise.

In response to these complaints, R. Limbadri, chairman of TGSCHE, said that these allegations would be investigated. He emphasised that no rule allowed private colleges to hike fees arbitrarily and urged parents to lodge complaints if they encountered such issues.

The Eapcet counselling will be conducted in three phases. The second phase will run from July 26 to August 2, and the final phase will take place from August 8 to 15. Candidates who complete the registration, fee payment, and slot booking early will have an advantage in the certificate verification and option-exercising processes. The seat allotment for the first phase will be released on July 19, and candidates must report to their allotted colleges by July 23.
