In some pharmacies, expired medicines were allegedly stored alongside saleable stock.

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration-Telangana detected irregularities in 144 medical shops and issued showcause notices during a statewide drive on Saturday. The violations included dispensing prescription medicines without the presence of a registered pharmacist, failure to maintain sales records and Schedule H1 drug registers, and non-production of purchase bills for stocked medicines.
Officials also found instances of medicines being sold without prescriptions from registered medical practitioners, improper maintenance of sales and purchase bill copies, and failure to store thermolabile drugs under prescribed temperature conditions. In some pharmacies, expired medicines were allegedly stored alongside saleable stock.
The department stated that show-cause notices had been issued to all 144 medical shops, and further action would be taken under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and related rules. The administration urged the public to report illegal activities related to medicines, including suspected drug manufacturing and narcotic-related activities, through its toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, available on working days between 10:30 am and 5 pm.
