MAHABUBABAD: A couple allegedly attempted suicide outside Madhura Wines at Narsimhulapet mandal headquarters in Mahabubabad district on Tuesday following a dispute over the liquor trade.
The couple claimed they were running a belt shop with the permission of the wine shop management. They alleged that excise officials and wine shop staff had seized liquor worth around ₹40,000 from their possession.
Protesting the alleged seizure, the couple staged a demonstration outside the wine shop before attempting suicide. Local residents intervened and prevented them from harming themselves.
The couple’s claim that they had permission to operate the belt shop and the circumstances surrounding the alleged seizure of liquor are being examined. Police and excise officials are collecting details regarding the incident.
