Telangana: Cong. Leaders Stage Highway Protests Over Rahul Gandhi's Arrest

NIZAMABAD: Congress leaders and workers staged rasta rokos on National Highway 65 and other major roads across the undivided Medak and Nizamabad districts on Tuesday, protesting the arrest of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Police deployed heavy security to maintain law and order.
In Sangareddy, Congress leaders and workers, responding to a call by TPCC working president T. Jayaprakash Jaggareddy, blocked the Hyderabad-Mumbai National Highway near Pothireddypally Junction. Hundreds of party workers sat on the highway, raising slogans against the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Police attempted to detain Jaggareddy after the protest disrupted traffic. A scuffle broke out between police personnel and Congress workers when he was escorted to a police vehicle. Protesters surrounded the vehicle in an attempt to prevent it from leaving before police dispersed the crowd and shifted Jaggareddy to the Sangareddy Town Police Station.
Addressing the media, Jaggareddy questioned the arrest of Rahul Gandhi and criticised the police action against students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak. He also warned of further protests, including laying siege to the BJP state office.
The report stated that some educational institutions observed a bandh in protest against the alleged lathi-charge on students and Rahul Gandhi’s arrest.
In the undivided Nizamabad district, Congress leaders, elected representatives and party workers staged protests across all nine Assembly constituencies. Protesters also burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Police were deployed in large numbers in both urban and rural areas to prevent any untoward incidents.
