KCR Drained State of Finances: CM Revanth Reddy

“KCR is merely venting his frustrations at losing power. His speech had no real content,” Revanth said

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused his predecessor and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao of mismanaging state finances during his decade-long tenure. In a sharp rebuttal to the BRS chief’s remarks against the Congress government on Sunday, Revanth Reddy said “The people have seen through his tactics.”

In an informal chat with media persons here on Monday, Revanth Reddy said Chandrashekar Rao had drained the state's coffers, which had led to a financial crisis for the state government. He also denied any 'gap' between himself and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, dismissing all speculation as baseless.

Revanth Reddy said Chandrashekar Rao's speech lacked substance and clarity. “KCR is merely venting his frustrations at losing power. His speech had no real content,” he said and accused the BRS chief of plunging the state into a financial mess, causing Telangana to fall into a debt trap.

Revanth Reddy asserted that the Congress government had delivered on key poll promises, which the party made during the election campaign, despite the severe financial constraints.

“We have fulfilled major poll promises, including the crop loan waiver, free bus travel for women, free electricity for households up to 200 units, subsidised LPG cylinders at Rs.500, Indiramma houses, and Rajiv Arogyashri with Rs.10 lakh coverage for the poor. We implemented India's largest-ever crop loan waiver scheme of over Rs.20,000 crore within just a year,” he said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the BRS chief had failed to keep even a fraction of the promises made during his 10-year rule.

“Despite his poor record, KCR is accusing the Congress of not implementing poll promises. People are not fools, and they have lost faith in him,” Revanth Reddy remarked, adding that the BRS chief’s claims were nothing but an attempt to cover up his failures.

Revanth Reddy also addressed questions regarding his relationship with Rahul Gandhi, stating, “I have a good relationship with Rahul Gandhi. I don’t need to convince anyone about that," he said.

The schemes introduced by the Congress government have not only been effective in Telangana but also serve as models for other states, Revanth Reddy said. Revanth Reddy said discussions about his governance would intensify in the last six months before the 2028 Assembly elections.

Referring to the ongoing anti-Maoist Operation Kagar in Karregutta on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, Revanth Reddy said, “The issue should be discussed at the national level. After our party’s decision on Kagar, we will announce the government's policy,” he added.

Revanth Reddy also took a swipe at Chandrashekhar Rao's disparaging remarks about BRS MLAs attending the Assembly session, whom he referred to as ‘kids’. "If KCR considers them as kids, why is he sending them to the Assembly? Why is he not going there himself," he asked.

The Chief Minister stressed that despite some challenges in presenting their achievements, the Congress government had streamlined administrative machinery over the past one and a half years. “We are continuing to work on the schemes we’ve introduced, and we’re improving them further,” he said.

Looking ahead, Revanth Reddy said, “I will remain in politics for another 20 years, and I will act according to the law. If I give my word, I will fulfil it.” He also noted that he had promised Addanki Dayakar an MLC position and had delivered on it.
