Hyderabad Must Be A Pollution-free City, Says Revanth

Asks officials to relocate polluting factories to beyond ORR

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to take steps to transform Hyderabad into a pollution-free city. He instructed them to move heavily polluting industries out of the core city area and relocate them beyond the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to ensure the city's long-term sustainability.

During a review meeting on the municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) department, Revanth Reddy stressed the need for long-term planning to tackle pollution and infrastructural challenges that may arise in Hyderabad over the next 25 years.

He expressed deep concern about the rising pollution levels in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, which have caused significant health problems for their citizens. He emphasised that Hyderabad must avoid a similar fate by implementing a comprehensive approach to environmental and urban planning.

The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the Musi River rejuvenation works. He instructed them to speed up development activities along the Musi riverfront, particularly from Himayatsagar to Gandhi Sarovar (Bapu Ghat in Langar Houz). He proposed building iconic landmarks similar to India Gate, Gateway of India, and Charminar at Kothwalguda Junction to promote tourism and create a distinctive identity for the Musi Riverfront.

The development of the Metro Rail system was also discussed in detail.

Revanth Reddy directed officials to accelerate ongoing Metro Rail construction works in the Old City and ensure adequate funds are allocated for their timely completion. He warned against delays in approvals for subsequent phases and called for close coordination with the Union Ministry of Urban Development to facilitate smooth progress.

The Chief Minister also reviewed plans for upgrading public amenities around Nehru Zoological Park and Mir Alam Tank. He recommended constructing modern hotels near these tourist destinations to boost both tourism and the local economy. These hotels should offer facilities that allow visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the city's landmarks and natural beauty.

Drawing lessons from other metropolitan cities, he urged urban development authorities to prioritise the creation of underground drainage and cabling systems to reduce surface clutter and pollution. He also called for special attention to upgrading the city’s sewage and water supply systems to ensure efficient service delivery to residents.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the issue of single-use plastics and called for their complete ban across the city. He instructed officials to implement stringent measures to prevent the indiscriminate dumping of construction debris and waste around Hyderabad. Those found deliberately violating these norms should face strict penalties, he said.
