Telangana: CCI Opens 157 Purchasing Centres

Over 8,205 farmers booked slots for selling cotton on the first day, on Thursday. Farmers did not throng to the purchasing centres in large numbers as the selling price was remunerative in the open market. The CCI has plans to open the remaining centres by Saturday

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) opened 157 purchasing centres at various places across Telangana for 2026-27.

Over 8,205 farmers booked slots for selling cotton on the first day, on Thursday. Farmers did not throng to the purchasing centres in large numbers as the selling price was remunerative in the open market. The CCI has plans to open the remaining centres by Saturday.

While there are 356 ginning mills in Telangana, 335 mills in 30 districts have been notified as purchasing centres. Cotton was grown in over 48.20 lakh acres in the state, this season. It is feared that the yield could reduce under the impact of El Nino. Under the threat of the adverse climate, private traders are buying cotton heavily. The central government fixed the MSP for cotton at Rs 8,667 per quintal while the price is at Rs 9,000 in the open.

Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswwara Rao, during a review meeting on cotton crop purchase, directed the officials to ensure basic facilities were provided at the centres. He asked the officials to ensure quality tests for the crop, ginning, shifting bales to the godowns and payment to the farmers were provided without fail.
